Reserving a place
A place is reserved when the first payment of €500 is received. Places are allocated in order of booking. Single occupancy rooms are limited and allocated the same way.
Payment
€500 on booking · €500 at ninety days before the retreat · balance at sixty days before.
Bookings made inside ninety days are payable in two parts; bookings inside sixty days are payable in full.
Dates and location
Retreats are held at private estates in Portugal, one to two hours from Lisbon. The estate and the final dates are confirmed eight weeks before the retreat, and the full address and directions are sent at that point.
Until confirmation, a date may move by up to seven days. You will be told as soon as it is fixed. If the new date does not suit you, your place transfers to another retreat or your payments are returned in full.
If you cancel
More than 90 days before — everything paid is returned, less €150 held against costs already committed.
90 to 60 days — payments transfer to another retreat within twelve months, or 50% is returned.
Fewer than 60 days — payments transfer to another retreat within twelve months if your place is filled from the waiting list. Otherwise no refund is possible, as the estate and catering are paid for.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended and should cover cancellation.
If we cancel or reschedule
If the retreat does not reach its minimum number, or cannot go ahead for any reason, you will be offered another date or a full refund of everything paid, including the deposit.
What is included
Accommodation, all meals from arrival to departure, tuition throughout, a professional life model, all clay, tools and materials, and use of the estate and its facilities.
Not included: travel to and from the estate, travel insurance, and anything bought on site.
The model
Sessions are worked from a professional life model, who works nude. Photography of the model is not permitted at any time.
Photography
Photographs and film may be taken during retreats for use on this website and on social channels. Faces are not published without written permission. Tell us on booking if you would prefer not to appear at all.
Health, safety and the fire
Retreats involve standing for extended periods, working with clay and tools, and an outdoor fire. You are responsible for telling us on booking about any medical condition, injury, allergy or medication that may affect your participation. The fire is supervised at all times and guests do not handle it unsupervised.
Your work
Pieces are hollowed and prepared for firing during the retreat. Nothing is fired in a kiln. Work is raw clay and fragile; it is wrapped for travel but carried at your own risk. Pieces left behind are returned to the earth in the closing fire.
Behaviour
The studio is a quiet, shared working space. We reserve the right to ask a guest to leave, without refund, where behaviour affects the safety or experience of others.
Privacy
Details given at booking are used only to run the retreat and to contact you about it. They are never shared or sold.
